Dedicated to Neighbors, Committed to Serve

I’m not a professional politician. I’m your neighbor who is committed to Falls Church City and the residents who live here.

I am John B. Murphy, and I would appreciate your vote on November 5th for the vacant seat on City Council.

I was born on Marshall Street, spent my childhood at Mary Riley Styles Library where my mom worked for 43 years.  My wife and I watched our two sons thrive in Falls Church City Schools (K-12). For decades, I have invested my time and energy into our community. I love it here, and I choose to stay here to continue to give back to our great community.

My Priorities

I believe my priorities reflect my neighbors’ needs and hopes. As someone who remembers train tracks across Broad Street, I have a unique understanding of how our City has improved and grown. Understanding our past is important to plotting a path for the future.

Support new and existing local businesses.  Our downtown is increasingly vibrant, thanks in no small part to our cherished local businesses - food, coffee, even my favorite, Brown’s Hardware, attracting the community to our streets and sidewalks.

Continued excellence in our City Schools

Keep Falls Church a green community with natural open space, and tree canopy in public and private spaces

Let’s improve walking and biking infrastructure. The public safety aspects of government cover everyone regardless of mode of transportation. There are many more people out walking and biking in Falls Church. The bicycle master plan is a great start but we need a pedestrian master plan as we continue to grow. Our sidewalks could be better.

Continue to preserve and improve our City Parks

Community Involvement

Giving back to our community is so important. While I haven’t made a professional career of it, I have given my time and effort to Falls Church City throughout my entire life. I’ve chaired the Board of Zoning Appeals and Zoning Ordinance Advisory Committee, helped with beautification of our community, mentored and supported our children, rallied behind safety measures, and I lent a helping hand to Falls Church neighbors whenever possible. Now that I’m retired, I can focus all my efforts on our community as well as the future of it and our residents.

I am committed to Falls Church and my neighbors, and my platform supports both. I want to complement the great work the City Council has accomplished as well as provide a unique perspective to grow Falls Church through sustainable development, forward-thinking mentality and values that take all residents into consideration. Read all about my platform, here.
